Manor House Hotel Moreton in Marsh Double Header

Manor House Hotel Moreton in Marsh Double Header

Manor House Hotel Wedding Photography Double Header

This winter I have been a Manor House Hotel wedding photographer in the Cotswolds twice. A true test of a venue is how well they work when the days are short, cold and the weather is unreliable. I would also say this is the ultimate test for a wedding photographer! Its all well and good taking nice photos on a beautiful dry, warm and sunny day with 16 hours of daylight to play with, but what about when the temperature is hovering around zero, it is dark by 4pm and a good chance of rain? That’s when a photographers efficiency, improvisation and ability is really tested!

It of course helps having great couples to work with, and Abi & Simon, and Tracey & Alexis were exactly that! Iv said it a million times, but I’m very fortunate in that because I market myself completely transparently, I nearly always get booked by people who “get me” and want what I do, and these guys are perfect examples of how that method works so well, and why I am happy to lose a booking to the wrong couple.

It results in days like these two. Beautiful, happy, friendly and relaxed weddings, where I spend the day as a guest with a camera rather than a contractor doing a job.

Manor House Hotel in Moreton in Marsh is the perfect venue for it too. Enjoy!

Another happy coincidence is that by virtue of both brides being NHS nurses, both weddings benefited from my NHS nurses discount. You can read more about why here.

Abi & Simon

First up back in November was Abi & Simon. They had the full day, including ceremony at the Manor House Hotel, and it was the perfect fun family day. The ceremony room is ideal, often at similar venues the space for the ceremony can be a bit compromised, but not so here, and being a separate space to the wedding breakfast room and reception area, there’s no awkward moving around of furniture!

Being November, we weren’t going to be outside for the reception, which is no problem as the reception space is great. Despite that lack of daylight, we still managed to get a perfect window for some portraits using the beautiful low winter sun!

A highlight was the singing waiters! After the food one of the guys who had been serving, picked up a mic and announced that it was his last day working as he was off to be on Britain’s got Talent, and burst into song! For half the first song the guests were in complete bemusement with no idea what was going on, which was hilarious for me as I had been briefed what was happening. When the penny finally dropped a full on mid-afternoon napkin waving gig commenced!

After dark we had some fun with a shot under the garden archway, then it was into the dancing and doughnut eating of course!

A big thanks to Abi, Simon and their friends and families for making me so welcome!

The photos were sensational

Lee Hawley Photography - Manor Hotel Moreton In Marsh - Abi & Simon-1

Wow… where to start. From the moment we met Lee he made both me and more importantly my wife so relaxed it was easy. We had a pre-shoot a few weeks before the big day and had such a laugh doing this with our son too and have some beautiful photos to cherish. The big day was so relaxing, we didn’t even realise Lee was there. We asked for more casual photos and he certainly delivered on that front, but his innovative ideas must be inspiring for young photographers. The photos were sensational, and I would highly recommend Lee to anyone, we will always be grateful for all his memories he has provided us with

Tracey & Alexis

It was 3pm, the wedding fayre had just finished and as I had a meeting to get to right after, I hurriedly packed up my stand. By the time I was nearly finished Tracey & Alexis were just finishing chatting to Beautiful Blooms who were in the stand next to me (who went on to create the incredible bouquets amongst other floral arrangements on the day), so armed with just an iPad and a brochure I welcomed them to my deserted stand! After a brief chat we arranged to meet up, and the rest is history!

A lovely February day arrived, and Traceys international bridal party were great fun to shoot whilst getting ready at the Manor House Hotel. Alexis was in a house with the guys just round the corner, so I managed to spend some time there too in the build up.

The ceremony took place in Lower Slaughter, which was the location we also used for a quick walk and the couples portraits afterwards. A beautiful village that never disappoints!

With some family living in South Africa unable to attend, there was some international broadcasting of the day over facetime, and one of my favourite shots is during the speeches of an emotional family member watching the touching speeches.

Another wedding where come the end of the day its hugs all round and I don’t want to say my goodbyes! Thanks for having me guys!

a lovely person who made us and others feel totally at ease with a gentle sense of humour

Lee Hawley Photography - Manor House Hotel - Moreton in March - Tracey & Alexis-517

Photography is such a personal thing, especially at your own wedding; the two things we focused on in choosing someone to capture our most important day were the relationship we had with our photographer and their ability to capture the moments as we saw them – formal and informal, overjoyed and, at times, sad and above all, as part of an amazing party.

Lee had all this and more – a lovely person who made us and others feel totally at ease with a gentle sense of humour and the ability to seem like he had disappeared at all the right times whilst still taking photos! He captured not just the memories we wanted to keep, but gave us so many more that we didn’t get the chance to see ourselves. The quality of his work is superb and he’s a really nice guy to boot. You won’t be disappointed.

Severn Cider – Pippa & Adrian

Marquee Wedding Photography

Marquee Wedding Photography

I love a marquee wedding. So much so I had one! Back in 2012, unable to relinquish control to a venue we decided to do it all ourselves, so I love the opportunity to do some marquee wedding photography! Our wedding had nothing on Pippa & Adrian’s though! Check out the effort and detail that went into the décor and games in the photos below.

The day was one of the incredibly hot August Saturdays in 2018, and despite basically melting all day, I absolutely loved it. Pippa and her bridesmaids were just the most fun getting ready, and made for some great candid shots of them and their friendships.

Having already done the legal bits a couple of days before, Pippa & Adrian were able to be more creative with the ceremony, which included hand fasting and jumping a broom! Love it!

The wedding reception was mega. About 3000 kids in attendance, and with an unmanned glitter station, it not only resulted in some highly decorated children, but it meant the hot tub also turned into a vat of silicone!

Severn Cider did a great job too. The whole day was like a mini festival. Relaxed, happy and fun, just like Pippa and Adrian. It was a bit of a mission for them to put together, but so worth it.

Thanks for having my guys!

to top it all he is a lovely kind-souled being

Lee Hawley Photography - Severn Cider - Pippa & Adrian-145

Lee was absolutely amazing at both of our wedding celebrations that were completely different, from a low key family event in a woodland setting to a 250 guest marquee glitter festival party. He captured the events perfectly and worked tirelessly to be in the right place at the right time over and over again! We couldn’t recommend him more, and to top it all he is a lovely kind-souled being xxx

The Swan at Bibury – Hannah & Scott

The Swan at Bibury - Hannah & Scott

The Swan at Bibury Wedding Photographer

the swan hotel logo

The Cotswolds is a very popular place to get married, and not just to those of us fortunate enough to live close by. I have a significant amount of couples book with me who live in London, but have their wedding at one of our beautiful Cotswold venues. Hannah & Scott were one such couple choosing the very special Swan at Bibury by Cotswold Inns & Hotels.

Hannah & Scott are so my type of couple! Didn’t want anything formal, their wedding was a happy casual party with load of friends and family, and wanted a photographer they could have a laugh with! And that we did.

Hannah was an impressive 25 minutes late for the ceremony. Made even more impressive by the fact she got ready all of a 1 minute walk away. This certainly didn’t help Scott’s nerves, but it was worth the wait. Check out the emotion in the photos below!

The reception was great fun, with the worlds slowest duck race! Sadly the stream was flowing at an all time low making it more of an endurance race than a sprint. Made for good photos though!

I love Autumn weddings, and the colours in Bibury at that time of year are just gorgeous. Our couples portraits were a breeze taking in a little stroll around Bibury, and by just letting Hannah & Scott be themselves we got some lush moments, topped off with the after dark shot in the gardens.

Some brilliantly animated reactions during the speeches were hilarious, and the dancing at the end of the day was next level!

I hope you enjoy the photos below!

I cannot emphasis enough how overwhelmed we have been with lee and his approach

Absolutely amazing from start to finish. I cannot emphasis enough how overwhelmed we have been with lee and his approach. we were also lucky enough to meet his gorgeous son who was just as lovely! Lee blended in as one of the crowd and captured moments we didn’t even realised had happened. He made everyone feel completely at ease and has taken beyond amazingly perfect photos – even our selfie!! Can genuinely not recommend highly enough!!

Gift of a Wedding – Natasha & Oscar

Gift of a Wedding – Natasha & Oscar

Gift of a Wedding - Natasha & Oscar

Tortworth Court wedding photographer

I was tagged in a facebook post from Gift of a Wedding who were needing suppliers for a wedding they were putting together for a bride with terminal cancer. I immediately knew this is something I would love to be able to help on, so sent the charity an email offering to donate my services with a link to my website, plus my blog which documented my own brush with cancer.

The facebook thread exploded with hundreds of replies, and I didn’t expect to hear anything more of it, but a couple of days later I received an email from Patricia accepting my offer! I was of course very pleased, but also slightly apprehensive not really knowing what to expect. I had a brief email exchange with Natasha introducing myself and we arranged to meet up in a couple of months just before the wedding.

The day I was schedule to meet Natasha & Oscar didn’t quite go to plan. The day before Natasha was rushed into hospital to have emergency brain surgery, and the wedding now very much in the balance. A week later Patricia from gift of a wedding emailed me to say that the wedding had been postponed due to Natashas health. My heart sank.

But a couple of weeks later, I had another email from Patricia with a new date for the wedding, and that date was less than two weeks away! Luckily and thankfully I was available, but a mad rush to replace some of the original volunteers who were unable to make the revised date was on! Social media was pebble dashed with requests for help, and BBC Radio Gloucestershire had Natasha live on the air the week before the wedding date to appeal for the final few bits of help they needed!

Skype

I had scheduled a Skype call with Natasha & Oscar minutes after the Radio Glos interview, and my apprehension about what to expect was immediately removed during this chat with them both. They were like every other excited couple planning a wedding! We had a great chat about what their plans for the day were, and I explained a bit more about what I do. I finished the call more relaxed and very excited for what would unarguably be the most important wedding I have shot.

I arrived to a buzzing bridal suit. Natasha having her hair done by Kassie Knott, and her 5 bridesmaids in various stages of prep including make up by Carly Williams. Champagne on the go and a real air of excitement! Then with just 45 minutes until the ceremony time, Oscar realised he had left his suit trousers at home (more than a 45 minute round trip away!), but after about half an hour of panic the wonderful Moises from Tortworth Court came to the rescue having found a brand new hospitality staff suit in exactly Oscars size!

With that issue resolved, the wedding could go ahead and I was able to capture some of my best work as a Tortworth Court wedding photographer, but not until Natasha was ready, and with such a special group of bridesmaids, I really wanted to get all of their reactions to seeing each other for the first time all dolled up, resulting in some of my favourite reveal pics I have taken. Natashas stunning dress is by Devlin Bridal Couture.

It’s difficult to not have a beautiful ceremony in the Tortworth court orangery, but the work done by Siobhan and team at The Wedding & Event Works was remarkable, as was the incredible cake by The Cuppa Cakery.

I have said in the past how I can often get a lump in my through when a bride or groom makes their entrance, part of the reason is I am bit soft and feel the emotion in a moment, but the other reasons is I have the best seat in the house. Nobody gets a better view of the drama unfolding, and through my lens I see even more detail as I’m perfectly zoomed into the story I’m telling.

Natasha’s entrance was one such incredible moment. After the ceremony Patricia said to me “were you crying?!?!”, to which I replied simply “balled my eyes out!”. At least I know I can definitely continue working whilst having a mini breakdown.

Helen Roberts did a great job as celebrant, along with beautiful readings and music from friends made for a powerful and joyful ceremony.

After the confetti and a few group shots, we dived straight into some quite shots of Natasha & Oscar together as the sun was out, so made sense to grab it while we can!

The drinks reception gave chance for everyone to catch up before the wedding breakfast back in the orangery.

As you can imagine, the speeches were particularly powerful. But not perhaps for the reason you would expect. It is easy to overplay how nice a particular couple are, but not with Natasha & Oscar. Humble, incredibly likeable, and full of positive energy, are just some of my feelings for these guys, but even that doesn’t do them justice. So with these two as the subject, the speeches were entertaining, heartfelt and emotional. A pleasure to experience.

As many of you have probably seen, I like to take advantage of the extra darkness at winter weddings, with some special night portraits! This wedding was no different, using Tortworth Courts lit up tunnel to good use!

Then something a little bit special, as www.chaselanefireworks.co.uk provided a stunning fireworks display, with audio and lighting supplied by www.southwestdiscosdirect.com. An incredible climax to a day I will never forget.

Since the wedding, Natasha & Oscar have been in touch with the most wonderful feedback, which means the world to me.

I owe a huge thank you to Patricia and the team at Gift of a Wedding for choosing me to capture the day. I also want to take the opportunity to credit as many of the other suppliers as possible below. Remember all these guys donated their time and services for Natasha & Oscar, so if you are in need of what they do, you know they have a good heart!

What an absolutely incredible human being you are

Lee Hawley Photography - Natasha & Oscar - Tortworth Court - Wedding Photographer -543

Lee, where to begin? What an absolutely incredible human being you are. We cannot even begin to thank you enough for what you did for us by donating your services, and how you made our wedding day that extra bit special.

Having a photographer at our wedding was such an important part for us, and knew the memories held in the photos would last a lifetime. The photos you produced were like nothing we had ever seen before, with such natural emotion being captured in each shot. The photos caught the emotion, detail and mood of the wedding day, and having such a personal feel to them.

Your style was exactly what we were looking for, being candid and natural, but capturing small details and heart-felt expression. Your communication throughout the entire wedding process has been impeccable, and shows how much you care about what you do and about us. The printed photos are gorgeous and the photo box is such a lovely gesture.

We must apologise again for not contacting you on the day you came to visit, and thank you for being so understanding.

It is people like yourself which make us realise how kind, selfless and generous people can really be, and how complete strangers can be so willing to help others out of sheer kindness. Our wedding day was perfect, and it was thanks to you. We wouldn’t have wanted any other wedding photographer. Thank you, from the absolute bottom of our hearts.

Thanks a million,

Natasha & Oscar

The work Gift of a Wedding do is remarkable, and without them, days like this wouldn’t be possible. It also wouldn’t be possible without the suppliers, and the wedding comunity at large. From the sheer quantity of suppliers volunteering in the first instance, through to the lovely communications I continue have with those suppliers who contributed on the day, the industry has shown why we all do what we do. These aren’t big companies sending a staff member for the day that won’t really cost them much either. These are often “one man bands” or small businesses giving their time and costs supplying cakes, flowers, decor, suits, dresses, hair, makeup, music and fireworks because they want to do a good thing.

It has been a pleasure to have been a part of, and hope to be able to do more in the future.

The Great Tithe Barn Wedding Photography – Alex & Danny

The Great Tithe Barn Wedding Photographer - Alex & Danny

In Gloucestershire & the Cotswolds we are so spoilt for wedding venues, and one style of venues we excel at is a rural barn, and why I love being a The Great Tithe Barn Wedding Photographer. The barn itself is gorgeous, with easy access to our rolling countryside, and accommodation on site too. So it is no surprise they are so popular, and Alex and Danny had an epic wedding and I was delighted that they chose me to do their The Great Tithe Barn wedding photography!

I first met Alex at the Bride & Groom Show Cheltenham some 18 months before their wedding. What they wanted from their photography perfectly fitted with my core style, so I knew it would be a fun day!

In the build up to the day, Alex & Danny decided they’d like to book in an engagement shoot, which is a great way to get a bit of experience with me and my camera. It was a perfect Spring evening, and was so much fun!

Wedding Day

The day itself was a pleasure to photograph. Lots of pretty details, nice weather but most of all fun, happy people! A big focus of the day was fu and games, with a white bouncy castle, games for the kids (and adults!), plus a few games of cricket.

To top it off we got a clear sunset too, so I piled Alex and Danny into my car and wizzed down to the wheatfield at the entrance to the venue for a few shots.

Hopefully you will see how my The Great Tithe Barn wedding photography are some of my favourites! Have a look below!

I don’t think I can put into words how fantastic Lee is! We are a couple who don’t really like having our photo taken but Lee made us feel really comfortable from start to finish. Nothing was ever too much and we could ask him anything. The photos that we have are phenomenal and everyone has commented saying how amazing they are! Lee is highly recommended and was the best choice we could have possibly made for our wedding day. We could not be more pleased with our photos (that we had access to really quickly after the wedding) and cannot thank you enough Lee for all you have done from engagement shoot to the wedding day. You are amazing!

Manor by the Lake Wedding Photography Double Header!

Manor by the Lake Wedding Photography Double Header!

Manor by the Lake Wedding Photography Double Header

Two of my most recent weddings have been at Manor by the Lake in Cheltenham, and as I seems to exclusively get awesome couples here, I thought I’d do a big old Manor by the Lake wedding photography special!

Firstly lets chat about the venue itself. It has everything I want in a venue, with loads of character and spaces to explore outside, a beautiful building, some great ceremony locations both inside and outside, plus a friendly helpful team behind the scenes! It always seems to be Claudine who gets stuck with me, which is no bad thing at all as that extra familiarity just further helps the day run smoothly.

Oh of my favourite features of Manor by the Lake Wedding Photography is the Rock Bar! No better venue for pre-wedding banter with your mates, or for the photographer to have fun whilst you eat!

Steve & Alan

Up first is Steve & Alan. We first met in early 2018, and immediately clicked. It was obvious that they had a very clear vision for the look and feel for their day, and my goodness did they execute it! Every detail was so well considered and a joy to photograph, but still not as much as the guys themselves. The fun and warmth on their day at Manor by the Lake made my job easy, and I’m so happy I was able to translate that into images!

There were a couple of great music highlights – First was a Mariachi Band! Every wedding should have one. Happiest music ever, and they even do more songs than just dadadadadadada dadadadadadadda dadadaddadada dadadadadadada! (you know the one). Steve and Alan booked Mariachi Rey who were simply brilliant. The second was a surprise for Alan, and a bagpiper was snuck in to celebrate his Scottish homeland! His face when the pipes started playing in the distance was magic.

One great thing about winter Manor by the Lake weddings, is the opportunities for after dark photos, and this one was no different, check out the gallery below for these along with some of the highlights!

Thanks for having me guys!

What can we say other than wow!!

Lee Hawley Photography - Manor by the lake - Steve & Alan - wedding photographer-558

What can we say other than wow!! We did a lot of looking for the right photographer for our wedding in October 2018. We loved Lee’s website and he was shortlisted along with three other photographers. In the end Lee was the only photographer that we met, and we were certainly not disappointed.

From our very first meeting with Lee, we knew he was the right photographer for us – friendly and personable he certainly made us feel at ease on the first meeting and on the day of the wedding.

We met with Lee a couple of times and corresponded regularly on the lead up to our big day. We had a clear vision of what we wanted and what was expected and Lee delivered over and beyond this.

We had a final pre-wedding meeting with Lee, so we were very clear on what we did and didn’t want. Lee already knew the venue but would have done a site visit if needed.

On the day, wow, Lee worked so very hard. He worked with us to get the best of our guests and ourselves and never felt like he was in the way, everything felt so very natural.

We were delighted that we had a sample of photos to look at the next day, and were even more impressed when all our photos were available to view online within 2 weeks. Lee really did capture the magic of the day and how he managed to capture literally ALL our guests was just amazing.

We recently received our datastick with all the photos wonderfully packaged in a wooden carved box along with a selection of photos.

We have only been married 2 months but are repeatedly looking back over the photos – Lee did an amazing job! I’ve recommended him to others already and delighted to know my friend has booked him for her wedding.

We cannot praise Lee enough for the amazing job he did on our wedding photography, and couldn’t recommend him enough – and Lee is also a really great guy!!!

Steve & Alan

Rachel & Adam

My first wedding of 2019, and a great start to the year! I first met Rachel & Adam in late 2017, and we met a couple of times before the wedding which was fun to get to know them, plus their little darling Ava!

The day started of, as you’d expect, with Karaoke in the Rock Bar. Adam and his mates belting out I don’t wanna miss a thing by Aerosmith was a wonderful rowdy start to proceedings! Things were a little calmer with Rachel, but only just with Ava providing the entertainment running on a wave of cake and sweets (rules go out the window on a wedding day) and she even had her own spontaneous plans on how the ceremony should go, with Mummy & Daddy being made to carry teddy bears during the vows.

The weather was cold but kind meaning outside confetti, plus some couples portraits, and the obligatory after dark shots too which is another reason why my Manor by the Lake wedding photography is great fun!

I loved every minute of it, and that pretty much shines through the happy photos I was able to snap!

100% recommend Lee

100% recommend Lee, in the nicest way possible I forgot he was at my wedding. The way he takes his photos are so discreet they are Incredible. Words can’t describe how happy we are with the photos and the care you provide. We will definitely keep in touch!

Rachel & Adam

If that doesn’t get Manor by the Lake on your short list of venues, nothing will! I cant wait to go back, but most of all I’m delighted to have new freinds in Steve, Alan, Rachel & Adam. If I can help with your Manor by the Lake wedding photography, just fill in the form at the bottom of this page!

Wet weddings can be a challenge. Nobody pictures their dream wedding in the rain, but the reality is the weather is only as big an issue as you allow it, and the almost complete non-acknowledgment of the weather by Sophie & Alex is exactly how you do it!

Their wedding wasn't even made easier by all being under one roof! Prep at Alex's parents house, the ceremony at Stroud Registry Office, wedding breakfast and reception at Egypt Mill, and the evening party at Penn Wood Scout Centre in a marquee. Despite this, it went perfectly. A newly married couple on cloud 9, happy guests and an enormously fun day. Take a look at a Gloucestershire Wedding Photographer in his eliment.

Goodbye Basil

Goodbye Basil

This has been a tough one, and I write most of this with tears in my eyes, as this week we had to say goodbye to our little superstar Basil. Please excuse this indulgent post, but I need to share the impact Basil has had on my life, and feel he deserves his story telling.

6 years ago Kim phoned me to say they had a little 8 year old wire fox terrier into the vets who’s owners wanted to put him down. At the time basil was shut-down, and to some degree a bit of a problem dog. Kim saw through this behaviour tho and knew there was a good soul in there. So as is the way, a day or so later Basil moved in.

I loved him immediately. A feisty little man, but at the time very very aloof. Wouldn’t make eye contact, did what he wanted and interacted with nobody.

Our first job was to ensure a happy integration with Dexter the cat and Hugo the dog. Dexter saw to the hierarchy by hitting Basil in the face half a dozen when they first met, and they had little to do with each other for the next 6 years!

Hugo was more passive and Basil spent the first week mounting him. Which for a terrier a quarter of the size of Hugo was impressive ambition. Basil eventually realised Hugo was not interested in fighting for “top dog” and that it wasn’t that type of household!

With us Basil would accept the odd stroke, but simple saw us as a point of food supply and little more. But over time he started to open up. From sleeping in other rooms, to sleeping in the room we were in, to moving the under our feet, and eventually on our laps on the sofa. He started to actually look at us, sniff, and give affectionate licks.

At the same time you could see clear changes in his behaviour. His barking reduced significantly, he started to play and have fun. He also went from being a dog who had never ever been off the lead, to with a bit of training, a dog who would go on walks for hours completely off the lead that we had complete confidence in. We soon had a dog clearly loving life, and also benefited from the company of his big brother from another mother – Hugo.

Hugo would never have voted for Basil joining us, and I’d never have described them as best friends, but he tolerated Basil, and played a big part in giving Basil a second lease of life.

One of Basils biggest contributions was when he stepped up and became a PAT dog.  For 4 years he gave the residents of Knightsbridge care home weekly visits and won many fans in doing so. He also gave me a new perspective on life by doing this. We can so easily just think of the elderly as old people, when in fact they were once like you or I. They were teenagers, had careers, they were new parents, and most of all – pet owners. It was a wonderful experience to be able to give them the unique feeing that only being with a dog can give.

Due to ill health Basil reluctantly retired from PAT duty earlier this year, and I have missed it terribly. I hope to get Hugo qualified in the new year to carry on Basil’s legacy.

For 6 years Basil has been our little shadow. Under your feet whenever cooking, right behind you as you panic on a walk thinking you’ve lost him, and always first in the queue on take-away nights wanting a prawn cracker or popadom.

He even perfectly accepted the arrival of Milo, being an angel when Milo was a baby, and tolerating the boisterous toddler, to the point that Milo would always refer to Basil as “my dog”. Seeing Milo walking Basil on the lead is a memory I will treasure.

The last 12 months have been a bit of a challenge for poor Basil, with his failing liver leading to accidents in the house and a nearly constant need to drink water. But he was still a happy chap, and by Kim taking him to work so he wasn’t left at home, meant he was still enjoying his days.

Even though we knew this time was inevitable, the grief is no less. The house feels empty without him.

In time we will take great conciliation in the life he enjoyed with us, and putting the gallery below together has given me a lot of joy, despite being viewed through tears.

We are a better family for knowing Basil, and will forever treasure our time together.

You can teach old dogs new tricks. And those old dogs can also teach us a thing or two as well.

In writing this I have been very restrained, as honestly, to write the extent of how I feel is too much to bear, and my coping mechanism is to compartmentalise and move on. But I have just read what my wife has posted on facebook and it has broken me. It captures Basil’s magic perfectly. A little star that only the two of us truly knew. I will paste it below.

Abi & Derry – Clearwell Castle

Abi & Derry – Clearwell Castle

Abi & Derry

Clearwell Castle Wedding Photographer

Abi first contacted me in Spring about her and Derry’s wedding in 2020, then a week or so later thanks to a cancellation at Clearwell Castle it was brought forward to this summer!

After a quick meet up, everything was booked in, and we schedule our pre wedding shoot.

Abi suggested Canop Ponds. Iv not been there since I was a child, and was a great place to shoot as you can see below!

The wedding was an absolute joy to photograph. Clearwell Castle is stunning, and provides a versatile and comfortable setting, and a beautiful backdrop for photos, but mostly it was a joy to work with Abi, Derry and their lovely friends and family.

The weather played ball for most of the day, as well as giving a huge downpour which we used to our advantage in the umbrella shot you can see in the gallery below.

I hope you enjoy the VLOG and gallery below, and will see why I love being a Clearwell Castle wedding photographer!

The way he captured moments was really magical!

Lee Hawley Photography - Abi & Derry Clearwell Castle Weding Venue-127

If we could give Lee 10* we would! I remember sitting at my friends house looking for a wedding photographer and stumbles across Lee on google, he had a video on his website and it made me tear up! The way he captured moments was really magical. I messaged him straight away and had my heart set on him being our wedding photographer. He replied to my email very quickly and with a very friendly and professional response. His prices and packages were really good, offering something for everyone! We exchanged quite a few emails discussing dates and other details. Lee then offered to come out and meet Derry and I. This confirmed to me he was definitely the photographer for us, so we booked him for our day! As part of our package we got an engagement shoot that put me at ease as I’m not ‘a natural’ when it comes to be photographed. The pictures were amazing and we were both so pleased and couldn’t wait for the big day! Finally the wedding day arrived and Lee arrived promptly and came up to see us as we were getting ready, he has a natural ability to make himself feel like everyone’s friend whilst almost not even being in the room! Several of the shots I was amazed at as I hadn’t even realised he was there getting them! Throughout the whole day he was amazing, coming up with cool ideas for shots whilst making friends with everyone! I couldn’t even count how many people said how lovely he was. Anyway.. later that evening we already had several amazing images sent to us! We couldn’t wait to see more but thought it would be a week or two! Nope! Lee had all our photos with us within 3 days!! We couldn’t stop smiling as we looked through them all, after sharing them with our friends and family everyone was so happy with all the images! We really can’t thank you enough for capturing our day the way you did. It means we will always have so many of the amazing moments captured! I just hope that we get to come to some more weddings where you’re the photographer so we can get a few more shots haha! But on a serious note you did a fantastic job and we couldn’t rate you more highly!

Tess & John – Summer Solstice

Tess & John – Summer Solstice

Tess & John - Summer Solstice

Matara Centre Wedding Photographer

Tess & Jon’s epic wedding at Matara was the perfect celebration of following your heart and doing what you love. An amazing supporting cast of guests from both sides of the Atlantic here to celebrate on the day of the summer solstice.

After their original photographer had to pull out 3 weeks before the wedding day, Tess contacted me to step in and tell their wedding story, being an experienced Matara Centre wedding photographer I was able to easily fill in.

We met the night before to run through the days details and to become a bit more acquainted as they had only just landed in the Cotswolds. We also did  a quick photo shoot to help things along!

The day itself was a scorcher, with so many laughs and happy people.

Tess, Jon, their friends and families were a joy to work with, immediately making me feel like one of their guests. I loved the unfiltered displays of emotion, the unique style of many of the guests and the beautiful details of the decor.

Tess and Jon were game for all my suggestions, resulting in some of my favourite photos of the year.

Matara was an amazing host as ever, and I was able to use the woods for a hero shot for the first time. It’ll certainly be amongst my entries for the 2018 Matara Awards! and another reason I love being a Matara Centre wedding photographer.

I hope you enjoy the VLOG and gallery below.

UPDATE Feb 2019 – I am delighted to have won a Best of the Best award for this photo at the annual Matara Awards!

Lee is quite simply brilliant!

Lee Hawley Photography Tess John-83

Lee is quite simply brilliant! He took the most amazing collection of images throughout our wedding day: lovely natural shots of our dear friends and family (many of whom are now using his pictures for their social media profile pics as he has a great knack for capturing the best in people!!); pictures of the tiny details; pictures of the whole happy big group; and some simply stunning shots of us out at sunset that are photographically brilliant- and way beyond our wildest dreams as to what the images for the day could possibly be. We couldn’t have asked for a more magical or memorable record of the day.
Not only that- he’s an all-round lovely human, great on the preparatory communications and super professional throughout. Trust me -you really, really do want to work with him for your wedding! Very, very highly recommended by us both. Tess and John.
